Slovakia will send help and assistance to Haiti

Bratislava – The Minister of Foreign Affairs Miroslav Lajčák has approved financial help for Haiti to deal with the consequences of the devastating earthquake. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs should release 50 thousand euros for this end. The Ministry of Interior is sending specific material help too. The President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gašparovič has already sent his condolences to the people of Haiti in this tragic moment of loss and devastation.

According to the information available to the Ministry so far there were no Slovak citizens among the casualties. The honorary consul of Slovakia in Port au Prince, Claude Martin, is unharmed; the building of the Consulat remained without damage.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on Slovak citizens, institutions and organizations to inform the state authorities about every foreign trip they make regardless of its purpose. Citizens can fill in the registration form on the Ministry’s website (www.mzv.sk) or contact the Embassy of Slovakia in the country of their destination or in the surrounding area.
