Marriages abroad are performed by local /foreign/ civil officials. In some cases, they are performed at Slovak Embassies abroad. It depends on the law of the country where the Slovak Embassy is situated.

If the marriages are legally performed and valid abroad, they are also legally valid in Slovakia, under the condition that the marriage is registered at the Central Registrar Office in Bratislava /Osobitná matrika/ and the Slovak Marriage Certificate is issued.

In general, the lawful age for marriage is 18 years. Persons under this age must present a written statement of consent by their parents.
