Human Rights, Council of Europe, OSCE and Minorities Department works with the agenda of human rights and fundamental freedoms within the context of and in cooperation with the international community, in particular relevant bodies of international organisations, such as the UN, Council of Europe, OSCE and the EU. The Department ensures engagement of the Slovak Republic in the work of these bodies, as well as our participation on international conferences, seminars and alike.

The Department monitors development of international human rights law and coordinates participation of the Slovak Republic in negotiations and codification processes on national and international level.

The Department maintains contact and cooperates with other public institutions dealing with human rights issues, mainly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Human Rights and Minorities; the Office of the Plenipotentiary of the Government of the Slovak Republic for Roma Community; the Office of the Public Defender of Rights; relevant ministries and bodies of the National Council of the Slovak Republic; as well with the Public Prosecution of the Slovak Republic; the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic. The Department closely cooperates with the Slovak National Centre for Human Rights and with non-governmental human rights organisations.
