Bratislava (25 May) - At its Wednesday session in Bratislava, the Government of the Slovak Republic approved the nomination of Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajčák for the post of UN Secretary-General. This was done in response to the invitation made by President of the UN General Assembly for the member states to nominate candidates with proven leadership and managerial abilities, extensive experience in international relations, and strong diplomatic, communication and multilingual skills for this post.
Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, held talks with his Swedish departmental counterpart, Margot Wallström, in Bratislava early this evening (14 May). Their bilateral meeting took place before the joint dinner of foreign ministers of the Visegrad Four (V4), three EU member states (Latvia, Romania and Sweden), the high representative of the European Union for foreign affairs and security policy, and the EU commissioner for neighbourhood policy and enlargement, that was organized by Minister Lajčák on behalf of the V4 presiding country on the occasion of the ministerial meeting of the V4 with the Eastern Partnership countries in Bratislava on Friday, 15 May.
Support of the further development of bilateral relations between Slovakia and Sweden, exchange of opinions with Swedish counterparts on current foreign policy issues, as well as identifying opportunities for reinforcing economic cooperation between both countries have been atop the agenda during the working visit of State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Ministry of the Slovak Republic Peter Burian to the Kingdom of Sweden (November 27-28, 2013).
State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Peter Burian will pay a working visit to the Kingdom of Sweden on November 27-28, 2013, within which he will officially open the Slovak Honorary Consulate in the northern Swedish city of Luleå.
