Today Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Mikuláš Dzurinda has had a presentation at the conference entitled Smart Security: Regional Cooperation in the Time of Austerity. The conference is a part of research project activities of the Slovak Atlantic Commission and its Central European partners. The project is focused on “sharing and pooling“ of defence capabilities in the V4 region. Minister Dzurinda took the auspices over the project known under the abbreviation DAV4 (Defence Austerity: New Paradigm for Defence Cooperation in the V4). The outputs are expected in April 2012.
Minister Dzurinda is convinced that international cooperation is a must. He also thinks that “the cooperation in areas as sensitive as security and defence will require a lot of political will.“ He also stated the example of sharing and pooling in the areas of diplomatic and consular representation abroad. The agreement with the Czech counterpart on mutual representation in visa proceedings through embassies and consulates having been signed recently acknowledges confidence and conditions for cooperation in security as well.
