On 10 May 2012, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Peter Javorčík received State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway Gry Larsen. Being colleagues, they emphasized the excellent quality of mutual relations and confirmed their interest in their further strengthening.
The main topic of the discussion was the current economic situation in Europe, especially stressing social impacts of the crisis. “It would be appropriate to interlink projects being financed through the EU funds and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism to support employment of young people,“ State Secretary Peter Javorčík said about possible solutions to unemployment, one of the most pressing issues related to the crisis both in Slovakia and the EU.
State Secretary Peter Javorčík thanked Norway for its active support in terms of financial assistance provided to Slovakia through the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and EEA Financial Mechanism in the amount of € 2 million for the reconstruction of the Reduta building in Bratislava, the seat of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra. This evening, Bjørnson’s courtyard is to be inaugurated there in attendance of the State Secretary of Norway.
They also discussed the current developments in the Eastern Partnership countries and in the Western Balkans. The Convention on Cluster Munitions, as well as Gender Equality – primarily in the context of the UN Resolution on Women, Peace and security issues also came up during the meeting.
