    V4 and Turkey: shared interest in regular dialogue

    Antalya (12 May) – In Antalya, a coastal city in Turkey, on Tuesday evening upon the initiative of the Slovak presidency of the Visegrad Group (V4), a working meeting was held of foreign ministers of the V4 and Turkey to discuss opportunities for closer cooperation between the regional V4 platform and Turkey as an important regional player.

    Joint meeting of the Czech and Slovak governments in Valtice, Moravia

    Valtice (12 May) – Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, today in Valtice, South Moravia, participated in a joint meeting of the governments of the Czech and Slovak Republics, and also held separate talks with his department counterparts, Lubomír Zaorálek, the Czech Foreign Minister, and Jiří Dienstbier, the Czech Minister for Human Rights, Equal Opportunities and Legislation.

    Lajčák ushered into office new State Secretary Slobodník

    Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák officially ushered the ministry’s new State Secretary Igor Slobodník into office today (May 6). “I’m pleased that this function is being filled by one of our most experienced diplomats from our foreign service. In the, dynamic times we live in, it’s important to be able to hitch up to a fast- moving train – as we have been working on many things and many challenges lie ahead. Therefore, I’m looking forward to our cooperation,” said the Minister in wishing Slobodník much success in his new post. Based on a decision of the Slovak Government, Slobodník has been nominated to the post of State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic since May 1. He has been active in the diplomatic service since 1992, holding the posts of Head of Mission at the Slovak Embassy in Denmark, Great Britain, and Germany, Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the North Atlantic Council, as well as Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.

    Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, today (29 April) presented the Golden Plaque for contribution to the development of Slovak diplomacy to the departing State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Peter Burian, who will assume the office of EU Special Representative to Central Asia on 1 May.

    A wide array of topics and partners in New York

    New York (28 April) – Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, continued holding a series of talks on global issues, European and bilateral topics at the United Nations on Tuesday. Minister Lajčák met with: Angela Kane, UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs; Miguel de Serpa Soares, UN Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs; Ramtane Lamamra, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Algeria; Samantha Power, the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations; and Andreas Mavroyiannis, the Negotiator of the Greek-Cypriot side in the inter-communal talks on the Cyprus problem.
