Bratislava (12 September) - Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák received Greek Ambassador Nicolas Plexidas in Bratislava today on the occasion of his mission ending in Slovakia.

Minister Lajčák stated that Ambassador Plexidas was executing his mandate in the Slovak Republic during difficult times both for the European Union and Greece, which has been facing the impacts of the financial and migration crisis. Despite this, Slovak-Greek relations maintained their constructive atmosphere. As well, Ambassador Plexidas´s work helped contribute to strengthening the trust and traditionally friendly relations between Slovakia and Greece.

The quality of these relations is also reflected in the intensive contacts of foreign affairs ministers of both countries. Minister Lajčák has already visited Greece three times this year – most recently at the end of last week, when he attended the Rhodes regional European-Arab conference on security in the eastern Mediterranean at the invitation of his counterpart Nikos Kotzias.

Minister Lajčák and the departing Ambassador Plexidas also spoke about the expectations from the Bratislava informal summit of leaders of the 27 member states, and discussed the course of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU.  In this regard, Minister Lajčák thanked Greece for sharing its experience in preparing for the Presidency.
