Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák today (2 February) awarded Professor Štefan Nosáľ, a long-term artist-in-chief and choreographer of the Lúčnica folklore ensemble, for his extraordinary lifetime artistic contribution and excellent presentation of Slovakia abroad, on occasion of the celebration of his 90th birthday.

“Professor Nosáľ is our cultural Ambassador: His artistry brings the essence of Slovakia to the world, presenting this essence in the best light to the world. He belongs among the personalities that greatly account for creating the positive image of our country abroad and embodies the fact Slovakia is full of smart and creative people whose enthusiasm for tradition and endurance empowers all the generations,” said Lajčák.

On the occasion of presenting Nosáľ with Golden Plaque and the meeting with Lúčnica Director General Marian Turner and Manager Julius.Jackuliak, Minister Lajčák introduced “Lúčnica and Slovakia. Good Idea” logo to be part of the Lúčnica brand as a cultural ambassador of Slovakia abroad.

The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic regularly awards Slovak personages who contribute to presenting Slovakia with their exceptional professional activities and creating a positive image of our country abroad. Almost 70-year continuous artistic leadership of Lúčnica by Professor Nosáľ is considered to be unique in the world by experts and enjoyed by the general public. As a dancer and later a choreographer and artist-in-chief he did thousands of performances at home and abroad in more than 60 countries. The Lúčnica ensemble has long cooperated with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic in presenting the Slovak culture abroad – last year also in the performances organized within the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU (Strasbourg, Paris, Moscow), as well as others in Latin America, Indonesia and Taiwan.

For his extraordinary contribution and development in Slovak culture, Professor Nosáľ has been awarded by many international and domestic awards, as well as state decorations: Honored Artist (1968), National Artist (1989), 2nd Class Ľudovít Štúr Order (1997), the Minister of Culture Award (2001), Crystal Wing Award (2001), Slovak Gold Award (2002), 1st Class Pribina Cross (2007), Paul Strauss Award (2009).
