State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lukáš Parízek, received today (1 September 2019) Brendon Charles Hammer, departing ambassador of the Commonwealth of Australia to Slovakia, with residence in Vienna.

At the meeting, the partners confirmed their interest in the further development of mutual relations based on common values and with the emphasis on economic cooperation.  The partners expressed their positive attitude toward the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Australia. “Slovakia supports the Free Trade Agreement. The sooner this agreement is concluded, the better for all the parties,” stated Lukáš Parízek.

Both parties also expressed uncertainty in the context of the withdrawal of the UK from the EU, and the possible impact on the economies on both Australia and Slovakia, should the UK leave the EU with no deal. The partners exchanged their opinions on current issues in the area of foreign policy, and global and regional issues, including migration and terrorism.

State Secretary Lukáš Parízek positively evaluated the interest on both sides to support interpersonal relations. At the end of the meeting, the partners highlighted the good relations between the EU and Australia, which create the preconditions for effective cooperation in key areas, such as economy and security.
