State Secretary Lukáš Parízek holds talks with His Eminence Cardinal Kurt Koch

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lukáš Parízek, received Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, who arrived to his first visit in Slovakia, today (2 October). In the eve of the meeting the cardinal attended a charity event, the International Ecumenical Concert 2017.
 

Both officials reiterated the traditionally very good standard of relations between the Slovak Republic and the Holy See. State Secretary Parízek highly appreciated the activities of the Church and of Pope Francis focused on development of ecumenism and dialogue among representatives of various denominations. On this occasion Parízek noted: “We positively perceive the activities of the Catholic Church and especially of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. They significantly assist on the way of building Christian unity.”
 

The state secretary and Cardinal Koch also touched on timely international political issues in their discussion such as the United Kingdom leaving the EU, supporting solutions to armed conflicts in the world through dialogue and opportunities to help refugees. “The refugee crisis and shortage of job opportunities pointed out the necessity to pay more attention to seeking solutions at the sites of conflicts from which people in need leave in search of a better life in Europe,” underscored State Secretary Parízek in the conversation.
 

Parízek and Koch also jointly appreciated the active collaboration and deepening dialogue among various religious denominations in Slovakia. They expressed their conviction that relations between Slovakia and the Holy See will continue developing to the benefit of both parties.
