On Tuesday (May 19, 2020), Martin Klus, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received Asligül Ügdül, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to the Slovak Republic.

During the meeting, the partners discussed, in addition to bilateral themes, the current development of the COVID-19 pandemic and, in this context, the possibilities of revitalizing tourism between the two countries during the upcoming tourist season. Last year, more than 200,000 Slovak citizens visited Turkey, which is one of the most popular holiday destinations. Considering the risks associated with the pandemic, the country wants to create conditions that will make it possible for as many foreign visitors as possible to spend their holidays in Turkey.

The possibilities of strengthening cooperation and trade exchange between Slovakia and Turkey, as well as the planned mutual visits, were also topics of discussion.

In conclusion, the two partners confirmed the excellent level of bilateral relations between Slovakia and Turkey and the need for a dialogue regarding the open issues in the relations between the EU and Turkey.
