Statement of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs on support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine

27.7.2018 | Vyhlásenia a stanoviská ministerstva |

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, in line with the joint position of the member states of the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance, has not recognized the results of the illegal referendum in Crimea of March 2014. Annexation of this peninsula to the Russian Federation has breached the fundamental principles of international law and undermined the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The Slovak Republic still considers Crimea a territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. As part of its upcoming chairmanship of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Slovak Republic will focus in 2019 on the issues related to conflicts in this area. One of our priorities will be to try to contribute to solving the conflict in neighbouring Ukraine whose sovereignty and territorial integrity we fully support.
