    Bratislava (7 November) - Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajčák, received a delegation from the European Parliament Former Members Association (EPFMA) in Bratislava today. During their visit the association members inquired about the priorities of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU and wanted an evaluation of the course of the Presidency so far, and discussed issues related to the future of the European Union, effects of the present crises on European society and the possible implications of Britain’s referendum to leave the EU.

    Bratislava (2 November) – State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and Slovak Government Proxy for the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Ivan Korčok, received deputies of the European Parliament Constitutional Affairs Committee (AFCO) today. The primary aim of the visit by European parliamentarians was to know how the key actors of Slovak political life see the future development of European integration in the context of the contemporary crises facing the EU, including the implications of the British referendum.

    Brussels (4 October 2016) – The 15th session of the EU-Kazakhstan Cooperation Council was held in Brussels today, chaired by Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. The Kazakhstan delegation was led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan A. Idrissov. The meeting was also attended by Jean-Christophe Belliard, Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service. “We had a very good meeting with Minister Idrissov and exchanged views on a wide variety of issues, including sensitive topics talking in a very open and constructive atmosphere,” stated Minister Lajčák.

    Trenčín (9 July) - State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Government Proxy for the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union Ivan Korčok gave an address at the most prestigious Pohoda Music Festival in Slovakia on Saturday (9 July). During the discussion entitled “Slovakia´s 12 years in the EU: what has EU membership given to and taken from us", he met with Executive Director of the Creative Department agency that designed the Slovakia´s branding Simona Bubánová, founder of the Mladiinfo Slovensko portal Ondrej Mäsiar and musician Martin Valihora. The discussion was moderated by the editor-in-chief of Hospodárske noviny Marcela Šimková.

    Prague (27 June) – Slovakia is ready to organize an informal meeting of foreign ministers of 27 member states of the European Union to discuss the implications of the British referendum for the future of Europe. This was the message in Prague by Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, after the meeting of foreign ministers of the Visegrad Four (V4) countries, Germany and France. “I proposed to organize in Slovakia in the nearest future an informal ministerial meeting to thoroughly evaluate the situation that has arisen in Europe and the next steps and how to respond to it,” stated Minister Lajčák.

For Slovakia, this regular monthly meeting was held in the run-up to the upcoming Presidency in the Council of the European Union.

    Brusel (14. marca) – O ďalšom smerovaní vzťahov Európskej únie s Ruskom aj Iránom diskutovali ministri zahraničných vecí členských štátov EÚ na pravidelnom zasadnutí Rady pre zahraničné záležitosti (FAC) dnes v Bruseli. „Najzásadnejšia diskusia bola o Rusku, ktorá ukázala veľkú mieru jednoty Únie,“ konštatoval podpredseda vlády a minister zahraničných vecí a európskych záležitostí SR Miroslav Lajčák. „V EÚ panuje jednota okolo hlavných princípov nášho angažovania sa s Ruskom, teda komunikácie v podobe kritického dialógu, v ktorom hovoríme o tom, v čom s Ruskom nesúhlasíme, ale aj o spolupráci tam, kde je Rusko súčasťou riešení,“ uviedol po skončení zasadnutia minister M. Lajčák.

    Bratislava (22 February) - The logo that will present Slovakia during its first ever Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2016 was introduced to the public on Monday night. The logo was unveiled during the event titled “Europe in Slovakia” that was held in the historical building of the Slovak National Theatre and was organized by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.

    Brussels (16 February) – Great Britain´s requests and the migration wave dominated the talks during the General Affairs Council preparing the agenda of the forthcoming European Council held in Brussels, where Slovakia was represented by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Ivan Korčok. “We are heading for difficult negotiations. However, I believe that both sides will show efforts to agree on a compromise – so that Prime Minister Cameron can actively fight for Britain to stay in the EU,” outlined Korčok with regard to the main topic of the summit.

    Brussels (15 February) – Prospects for a ceasefire in Syria, assistance to Syrian refugees in Lebanon, the need for pro-European reforms in Moldova, as well as political changes in Belarus were the topics tabled during the EU foreign affairs ministers meeting. Slovakia was represented at the regular session of the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) in Brussels by Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. Shortly before the meeting, Minister Lajčák met with Dragan Čović, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BaH), who submitted the country´s official application for EU membership to the Dutch Presidency of the Council of the EU.

    Brussels (14 December) – Evaluation of developments in the Eastern Partnership countries, in Libya and Iraq, as well as cooperation with Turkey were the topics discussed by EU Foreign Affairs Ministers at their regular Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union. “From the perspective of Slovakia, most important was the discussion on the Eastern Partnership, its future direction and our ambitions towards the countries east of the EU borders," stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák, representing Slovakia in Brussels. During the talks, he emphasized that the EU must be able to offer the partners an agenda that will motivate them towards further reforms and modernization.
