    Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajčák, today (25 April) received a delegation from the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) that is Slovakia’s strategic partner for activities to promote security sector reform. The cooperation of Slovakia with DCAF started in 2006 and since then has resulted in numerous activities within international and regional organizations. Minister Lajčák appreciated the high standard of cooperation with the Geneva Centre with an outlook toward SR’s presidency of the OSCE in 2019. One of the most important Slovakia-Geneva Centre cooperation activities in 2017 will be organizing an international conference on security sector reform (SSR) scheduled for the beginning of June in Bratislava on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the first UN Security Council Open Debate upon the initiative of SR as a non-permanent member in 2006-2007.

    State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lukáš Parízek, opened the Slovak-Finnish Business Forum in the premises of the diplomacy department today (25 April 2017). The introductory event was included in the two-day mission of Finnish business leaders to Slovakia.

    Brussels (24 April 2017) – The sherpas from the member states met under the EU27 format and stabilized the wording of the guidelines for the EU in the upcoming negotiations with the United Kingdom concerning its departure from the Union. The guidelines or “the key notes” for the crucial negotiations also take account of several demands by Slovakia, represented at the meeting of the sherpas by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Ivan Korčok.

    Brussels (11 April 2017) – Sherpas, the national advisors to the EU-27 prime ministers, met today to give their positions to the guidelines for EU negotiations with the United Kingdom over its departure from the Union. The guidelines present the key negotiating principles for Michel Barnier who will lead the negotiations on behalf of the EU27. State secretary of the diplomacy department, Ivan Korčok, used his time in Brussels to also meet with Barnier, EU Chief Negotiator for Brexit, and explained Slovak ideas and priorities to him.

    State Secretary of the diplomacy department, Ivan Korčok, made a working trip to Banska Bystrica today (5 April). Besides talks with the management of the Faculty of Political Sciences and Faculty of International Relations of Matej Bel University, the core of his program was a discussion with the students of the current challenges and the future development of the EU that was organized in cooperation with the GLOBSEC Academy Centre.

    State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lukáš Parízek, headed the delegation from Slovakia at the International Conference Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region that took place in Brussels yesterday (5 April). The key conclusions from the Brussels conference included clear support for a political solution to the Syrian conflict and the need to continue providing humanitarian aid to the victims of violence.

    State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lukáš Parízek, made a working visit to the Republic of Serbia on 27-29 March. During the visit he met with his Serbian counterparts, state secretaries of the diplomacy department, Ivica Tonćev and Nemanja Stevanović, officials from the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, including the Speaker of the Autonomous Province Assembly, Ištván Pásztor, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education, Regulations and National Minorities, Mihalj Njilaš, Minister for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, Miroslav Štatkić, officials from self-governments, media, cultural and religious institutions as well as with members of the Slovak ethnic minority in Kovačica, Baćki Petrovac, Stara Pazova, Kysać, Selenća and Novi Sad.
