On Wednesday, 22nd March 2017 a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Maastricht Treaty and the 60th anniversary of the Dutch Tree Festival Foundation took place in Maastricht. Representatives of the EU member states attended the event as an act of the celebration of the European cooperation and integration. The main aim of the event was to mark the start of the rebuilding of the former A2 highway to a park. The park will include a European square, where the representatives of EU member states together with children from local schools planted one tree for each member state. Former Prime Minister Wim Kok, Mayor of Maastricht and Governor of Limburg together with around 500 children also attended the event. The Slovak republic was represented by H.E. Mr. Roman Bužek.
