An agreement on political dialogue and cooperation between the EU and Cuba was the core topic of today’s (28 June) talks between Lukáš Parízek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the SR, and Loipa Sánchez Lorenzo, Ambassador of Cuba to Slovakia.

Parízek reiterated Slovakia’s interest in speedy achievement of a bilateral agreement between Cuba and the EU that will regulate and standardize relations between both partners. Ambassador Lorenzo conveyed Cuba’s ambition to sign the EU-Cuba agreement during Slovakia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU.

In the meeting State Secretary Parízek appreciated the important position of Cuba as a mediator between the government of Columbia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia in the peace process negotiations that have culminated in the signing of a bilateral and definitive ceasefire agreement on 23 June.

The partners positively evaluated the recent development of relations between the two countries, with emphasis on the economic area. Parízek acquainted the ambassador with the priorities of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU, also in the context of the referendum in Great Britain.
