Minister Lajčák in Beijing on developing bilateral relations and Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák paid a working visit to the People´s Republic of China from 3-5 July 2016.

 

During the talks with his counterpart, Foreign Affairs Minister of the People´s Republic of China Wang Yi, they expressed mutual interest in the further development of relations in all areas – including the political and inter-ministerial contacts, economic cooperation, diversification of trade, investments, science and research, education and culture.  As well as bilateral issues, they also touched upon cooperation in international organizations, the priorities of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU and the extended cooperation of China and central and eastern Europe (China + 16). “I believe that the increased interest of China in the region of central Europe and the potential of the One Belt, One Road initiative will lead to further deepening of our trade-and-investment relations,” stressed Minister Lajčák. During the meeting, the ministers also delved into the current priorities of the EU-China priorities, also regarding the upcoming bilateral summit to be held in Beijing on 12-13 July 2016. They also discussed global issues including the cooperation at the level of the UN and other international organizations.
