Prospects for developing economic cooperation with South Africa

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Peter Burian received Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of the Republic of South Africa Elizabeth Thabethe on September 25, 2012. The Deputy Minister leads the South Africa delegation at the meeting of the 4 th Joint Committee of the Economic Cooperation between the Slovak Republic and the Republic of South Africa to be held in Bratislava on September 26, 2012. The ministers confirmed their mutual interest in further developing bilateral relations with an accent during the meeting on deepening economic cooperation. They stated that there is scope for improvement in the economic area – in energy, building infrastructure, water economy, tourism, and mutual trade and commerce. In the discussion, State Secretary Burian especially stressed the importance of the state’s support of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in launching their activities in foreign markets. In this regard, he appreciated that a contingent of SME from South Africa that is interested in establishing cooperation with Slovak entities.
