Bratislava (5 October) – “Slovak institutes abroad represent a key part of cultural diplomacy and presentation of Slovakia abroad,“ stated Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák at the annual meeting of the heads of all the Slovak institutes in partner countries held in Bratislava on Monday.

He also emphasized the results and work of the institutes under the uneasy conditions of budgetary restraint. “I appreciate that Slovak institutes are creative and could organize several successful events for presenting Slovak culture and our country abroad under limited budgetary conditions,” Minister Lajčák said.

He pointed to the upcoming Presidency of the Slovak Republic of the Council of the European Union being the biggest challenge for Slovak institutes in the near future, as the cultural presentation of Slovakia will be part of it. “This will be a unique opportunity to present Slovakia, and one we must fully use,” said Lajčák.

He also highlighted the importance of the cooperation of the Slovak institutes with another two domestic ministries – especially the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Economy – as cultural diplomacy cannot be separated from economic and presentation diplomacy and thus organically complements foreign policy diplomacy.

Currently, Slovakia has eight Slovak institutes: in Prague, Budapest, Warsaw, Vienna, Berlin, Paris, Rome and Moscow.
