The future of the European Union and the search for answers to foreign policy and security challenges, among which are hybrid threats and migration as well as, for instance, relations with Russia and the future of the Eastern Partnership, dominated the joint meeting of V4 foreign affairs ministers and five Nordic and three Baltic states in Stockholm today (19 June). The delegation of the Slovak Republic was led by Ivan Korčok, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. The ministers stated that nowadays Europe cannot rely only on its own viability but that it is in its existential interest to also take care of the stability and security of its own neighbourhood – both at the east and south. It is high time to admit that in the EU neighbourhood there is a fight for positions with other strategic stakeholders, especially Russia, along with various external factors, including the unstable situation in eastern Ukraine and ongoing war in Syria as well as the existing war of propaganda happening at the same time. “In relation to the EU´s Eastern Partnership it is necessary to continue in building the targeted strategy we adopted in March this year, which defines twenty tangible outcomes for our partner countries by 2020. We must push for reforms that would really bring tangible benefits for citizens of these countries,” said Korčok.
