State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia Peter Burian during his official visit to the UN met on April 28, 2014 with Under Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous. They mutually discussed a number of key topics related to current political developments in Afghanistan, Cyprus, South Sudan, Mali and Central African Republic. Special attention was paid to the issue of Security Sector Reform (SSR). Peter Burian briefed his partner about ongoing activities and upcoming plans of Slovakia with regard to this topic, pointing out the close linkage of SSR with tasks and role of UN peacekeeping operations. H. Ladsous highly appreciated the contribution of the Slovak Republic to the development of SSR and highlighted its importance in the formulation of current mandates of UN peacekeeping operations in post-conflict areas.
