    Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák gave an address today (24 January 2017) at the UN during the high-level dialogue entitled Building Sustainable Peace for All. In his address he highlighted that assuring a more secure and righteous world must be in the interest of all – developed or less-developed countries. "Peace and security are fundamental prerequisites for development and removing poverty. However, it’s also true vice versa: without development and removing poverty, it is not possible to achieve sustainable peace. Here it is, the intersection of development and security,” said Lajčák.

    During his working visit to New York, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák met with President of the ongoing 71st session of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson today (23 January 2017) to discuss the security and humanitarian challenges facing the international community. Both diplomats agreed that poverty and conflicts are at root of mass migration which along with terrorist activities of extremist groups such as Daesh represent challenging tasks for the UN. Lajčák said and confirmed that the Slovak Republic is aware of the UN´s irreplaceable role as a peace and security guarantor, sustainable development promoter and human rights advocate in the world.
