The Permanent Mission of the Slovak Republic to the United Nations
Slovak diplomacy celebrates another outstanding success: following February this year when Slovak diplomat of a long standing Ivan Surkos took over the job of the Head of the EU Delegation in Cairo, Egypt, Secretary-General of the United Nations appointed Ambassador Oľga Algayerová, Permanent Representative of Slovakia to International Organizations in Vienna, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission in Geneva.
On the initiative of the United Kingdom, the open debate at the ministerial level was held on 15TH March 2017 in the Security Council. The event was dedicated to the topic of human trafficking and modern slavery, which are one of the most lucrative kinds of international organized crime.
Supporting the work of and contributing to the solutions set forth by the UN General Assembly in core issues like climate change and its impact on the environment, economy and security dominated the address given by Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák at the High-level Action Event on climate change at the UN in New York today (23 March). The event, organized by Chairman of the 71st UN General Assembly Peter Thomson, serves to reinforce synergies between the two mutually interlinked topics: climate change and sustainable development.
During his working visit to New York, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák met with President of the ongoing 71st session of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson today (23 January 2017) to discuss the security and humanitarian challenges facing the international community. Both diplomats agreed that poverty and conflicts are at root of mass migration which along with terrorist activities of extremist groups such as Daesh represent challenging tasks for the UN. Lajčák said and confirmed that the Slovak Republic is aware of the UN´s irreplaceable role as a peace and security guarantor, sustainable development promoter and human rights advocate in the world.
Permanent Representative of Slovakia Ambassador František Ruzicka met with participants of the Annual Conference to discuss transition(s) in the UN, USA, Europe and role of cultural diplomacy in world affairs.
