New York (13 July) – As of today, the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union is also presented to the world’s diplomats and the wider public at the UN in New York. Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák opened the Amazing Planet exhibition of photographer and world traveler Filip Kulisev at the seat of the global organization on Wednesday evening (local time).  The opening ceremony was also attended by President of the UN General Assembly Mogens Lykettoft, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Jan Eliasson, UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information Christina Gallach.

“The exhibition by Filip Kulisev couldn’t be at a more suitable place today. His photographs depict the unique and beautiful nature of this planet.  And the UN, as the global organization bears a core responsibility for stewardship of the Earth and its natural history and cultural heritage.  In our daily lives– full of hurry and work – we often do not even realize what a beautiful planet we live.  Filip reminds us of this through his work. Discovering and depicting the Earth’s uniqueness has become his professional mission and personal passion. And as his photos speak about the beauties of our  planet, they also attest to the talents Slovakia produces, which we are presenting now in this form to the world,” stated Minister Lajčák.

Kulisev is having an exhibition at the UN for the first time. “I really appreciate the opportunity to show my work at the UN. I like the UN initiatives in the environment. I’m glad that I can also contribute to their fulfillment so that our planet remains equally beautiful for our future generations as I try to picture it now in my photographs," emphasized Kulisev.

The exhibition was also prepared and provided for by the Slovak Permanent Mission to the UN under the leadership of Ambassador František Ružička. “The exhibition Amazing Planet is a glimpse of amazing parts of our planet through the lens of the excellent Slovak photographer Filip Kulisev. In harmony of lights, perfect shapes and attractive sceneries, it is both a challenge and a commitment for us to do everything possible so that the three dimensional reality of today does not become only a two-dimensional memory of tomorrow. We would like to confirm our determination to endorse the implementation of global agreements in sustainable development and the fight against climate change  – which attested to the meaningfulness of multi-lateral diplomacy in 2015 – through this exhibition at the UN on the occasion of the Presidency of the Slovak Republic of the Council of the EU,”  said Ružička.

Visitors to the UN headquarters will be able not only see photographs from national parks of North and South America, Asia and Africa, Australia and Europe, but also the photos of how he does his work.

“The photographs from Slovakia like a water mill in Malý Dunaj (Small Danube) or Kriváň peak will also be displayed, as well as the pictures of Spišský hrad (castle) being part of the collection of world famous personages such as Pope Francis, Britain’s Prince Charles or Slovak President Andrej Kiska," added Kulisev. The Amazing Planet exhibit will run until 22 July at the UN.
