On the occasion of International Women's Day (8 March 2024), the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic emphasised the importance and irreplaceable role of women in Slovak diplomacy. The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, believes it is important to create fair and equal conditions, room for self-realisation and opportunities for women to successfully represent the Slovak Republic at home and abroad.

Based on current information, the Dutch side, which previously did not have sufficient information about the planned event – where the internal political situation in Slovakia was to be discussed at the Dutch Embassy in Prague with the participation of ambassadors of EU member states but without the Slovak ambassador to the Czech Republic being invited – decided to cancel the event on its embassy premises in the Czech Republic.

Today (6 March 2024), the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic summoned the Dutch ambassador to Slovakia, Gabriella Sancisi, to convey to her its reservations about an event to be held at the Dutch embassy in the Czech Republic with the aim of assessing the political situation in Slovakia.

The Visegrad Group marks its 33rd anniversary on 15 February 2024. On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, stressed the need for more agile cooperation in one of the important regional groups on the European continent.

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár declared on 1 January 2024 in commemoration of the anniversary of the founding of the Slovak Republic that Slovakia needs to develop its success story. During its 31 years of independent statehood, it has become a respected partner, a member of relevant international organizations and, according to the Minister´s statement, the Slovak Republic, as the current government has pledged, would continue with its sovereign foreign policy that favours Slovak citizens.

In commemoration of Human Rights Day on 10 December 2023, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár stated that it is the collective duty of society world-wide to promote the human rights of every person in the world.

In relation to the statement by the U.S. Embassy today on the proposed amendment to Slovakia´s criminal law codes adopted by the Government of the Slovak Republic (SR), the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the SR Juraj Blanár rejects any intervention in the internal affairs of the Slovak Republic by the U.S. Embassy.

07.10.2023 Israel

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic (MFAE SR) strongly condemns the ongoing terrorist attacks against the State of Israel and its people. We express our solidarity and full support for Israel in its right to self-defence.

On Monday (2 October 2023) the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic of the Slovak Republic (MFEA SR) summoned a representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Slovakia due to the statements made by the director of Russia's foreign intelligence service (SVR), Sergei Naryshkin, which were published during the pre-election moratorium on the eve of the parliamentary elections in Slovakia.

On Wednesday 27 September 2023, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic summoned Csaba Balogh, Ambassador of Hungary to Slovakia.

On Thursday, 14 September 2023, the Slovak Republic decided to expel a worker from the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the Slovak Republic.

82 years ago, on 9 September 1941, the so called Jewish Code came into force in the wartime Slovak Republic. The regulation of the then people's regime was one of the most cruel anti-Jewish laws in Europe. The ninth of September is therefore annually commemorated as Memorial Day for Victims of the Holocaust and Racial Violence throughout Slovakia.

On 1 September 2023, on the occasion of Constitution Day, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Wlachovský said that the adoption of the fundamental law of the state was an important step in the establishment of the independent Slovak Republic. He considers the Constitution of the Slovak Republic to be the cornerstone of a democratic society and social order.

79 years have passed since the outbreak of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP). On this occasion, on 29 August 2023, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Wlachovský said that the SNP symbolises the courage and bravery of the Slovak nation.

At night from 20 to 21 August 1968, the armies of five Warsaw Pact states forcibly crossed the borders of what was then Czechoslovakia, beginning the occupation of our homeland in order to suppress efforts to democratise the regime.

On Monday 24 July 2023, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic summoned the Ambassador of Hungary to Slovakia, Csaba Balogh.

On 30 June 2023 - the day of the 30th anniversary of Slovakia's accession to the Council of Europe, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Wlachovský, highlighted the contribution of this international organization of European states to the democratisation of Eastern Europe after the fall of the Iron Curtain. He described the Council of Europe's assistance to Slovakia on the road to European integration as indispensable.

Russia's aggression against Ukraine further increases the need to return to the ideals of the United Nations (UN) Charter and respect for its principles, stated Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Wlachovsky on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of the Charter's signing on 26 June 2023. In his words, this key document not only constitutes the legal basis for the functioning of the UN, but also lays down the principles of international relations. Their universality and timelessness makes them valid even today.

On 24 June, the Slovak Republic commemorates the Day of Remembrance and Respect to Victims of the Communist Regime - all those wrongly convicted and imprisoned between 1948 and 1989. On this date, 24 June 1954, a doctor, political prisoner and Catholic dissident Silvester Krčméry was unjustly convicted of alleged treason, after being tortured.

Harassment of media workers is unacceptable and can have serious consequences for the freedom of press and the democratic society itself. Attempts to intimidate them as well as any actions that incite a hateful atmosphere within society are especially reprehensible just a week after the fifth anniversary of the murder of the investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová. The core of a journalist's work is to search for the truth, watch out for the public interest and control those in power.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic welcomes the political agreement on the implementation of the Northern Ireland Protocol between President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, which was achieved in Windsor on Monday, 27 February 2023.
