We would like to inform you, that emergency number works just for the most serious cases primarily connected with the arrest or other restriction of personal freedom, when citizen became a victim of a crime, serious accidents (severe injury-hospitalization) and illnesses, in case of death or repatriation.


Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in New York provides consular protection to citizen of the Slovak Republic and citizen of a member state of the European Union which is not represented in a third country or if it has no embassy, consulate or honorary consul there which is effectively in a position to provide consular protection in a given case. Same consular protection applies on a family member of citizen of the Slovak Republic and family member of the citizen of a member state of the European Union which is not represented in a third country or if it has no embassy, consulate or honorary consul there which is effectively in a position to provide consular protection in a given case.

Consular department of the Consulate General is closed for public on Fridays and during the state holidays in the Slovak Republic.
The Embassy will be closed in 2020: 1st of January, 6th of January, 10th of April, 13th of April, 1st of May, 8th of May, 1st of September, 15th of September, 26th of November, 24th – 25th of December.
 

We would like to provide you with a high quality execution of consular functions in consular district of the Consulate General that is the reason why it is necessary to make a reservation of a date and time of your meeting at the Consulate General.

We would like to inform you that the Embassy accepts payments of administrative fees just in cash – USD or in form of Money order. (Payment by debit/credit card is not possible.) Administrative charges slightly changes monthly because of a change of convertible rate of USD – EUR.

 

It is always necessary to present yourself with valid document of identification:

  • citizens of the Slovak Republic: valid passport issued by the Slovak Republic or valid identification card issued by the Slovak Republic,

  • citizens of the member states of the European Union (just member states of Schengen area), Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein: valid passport issued by the state of their citizenship or valid identification card issued by the state of their citizenship which allows them to enter Slovak Republic,

  • citizens of other countries: valid passport recognized by the Slovak Republic.

 

Persons younger than 18 years old much or persons lacking legal capacity must come with their legal guardian if it is not stipulated other. Relation between these persons must by declared by public document (birth certificate, decision of court etc.).

The Consulate General can execute consular functions base just on public documents issued or legalized by the state authorities of the Slovak Republic or public documents issued or legalized by the foreign state authorities when they are properly legalized (Apostille or consular superlegalization), except international agreement binding for the Slovak Republic stipulates others.

Public document is a document with seal of state authority and sign of relevant public servant.


Apostille is accepted when the state is a party of The Convention of Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents (Hague Convention). The Slovak Republic and USA are parties of Hague Convention.

According to the Act No. 177/2018 Co. It is not necessary to submit documents, in case that the information is available for the administrative body in information registers of public administration. Mainly Slovak Criminal Records and Slovak Register documents when these were issued in the past and information are registered.

Special jurisdiction just for Schengen visa application

Consulate General of the Austrian Republic in Los Angeles represents the Slovak Republic in the issuance of Schengen visas for applicants residing in states: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, California, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and dependent US territories.
