This month´s regular bicommunal dialogue under the auspices of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia took place on 27 March 2024 in Ledra Palace hotel.

This year´s first meeting of Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot political parties representatives under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy, with the participation of 11 political entities, was held on 31 January 2024 at the Ledra Palace hotel, in the „bufferzone“. Attendees discussed on the topic proposed by the hosting party – United Cyprus Republican Party (ERKK): “The role of the Transitional Justice in reconciliation in Cyprus”.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Robert Kaliňák and the Minister of the Interior Matúš Šutaj Eštok visited the members of the Armed and Police Forces of the Slovak Republic that serve in Cyprus as part of the UN peacekeeping mission (UNFICYP) performing tasks in maintaining and keeping peace on the island. There are currently 240 Slovak female and male officers serving in Cyprus, not only in military but also in police uniforms.

On 13 November 2023, the Government of the Slovak Republic approved its manifesto.

On 7 November 2023, the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia organized the 5th round of the „Drop of Slovak Blood“ initiative, this time with a participation of 3 Embassy staff members and 57 Slovak UNFICYP contingent members (SLOVCON).

On Friday 27 October, the stadium of Ayia Napa hosted a friendly match between the players from the Club of Football League Gunners - Internationals of Slovakia and the Cypriot team organized by the Nicosia Football Veteran Association. In the Slovak squad there were elite footballers such as Jozef Kožlej, Stanislav Varga, Vladimír Kinder, Ladislav Pecko, Martin Jakubko and many others. The match ended with the result 2:2 (1:2), both Slovak goals were scored by Martin Jakubko, member of the national team at the South Africa World Cup in 2010. The Slovak team was coached by the former goalkeeper Ladislav Molnár.

20 – 21 September 2023, Limassol, Cyprus After successful previous years of the strong participation of Slovak start-ups and innovative companies at the Reflect Fest conference, this year´s participation of Slovak entities was once again supported from the Funds of the Project Scheme of the Economic Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.

450 guests, including five members of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, the classical music concert performed by three Slovak artists, the inauguration of the photographic panel exhibition and the brochure marking three decades on bilateral relations - are the quintessence of the event held on the occasion of both anniversaries on 5 September 2023 at the Municipal Theatre in Nicosia.

4th round of the “DROP OF SLOVAK BLOOD IN CYPRUS” initiative was held on 30 June at the Engomi Health Cyprus with a participation of 4 Embassy employees and 24 Slovak UNFICYP peacekeepers.

Concert. to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Slovak diplomacy – a gala event of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic took place in the Winter Riding Hall of Bratislava Castle on Thursday, 29 June 2023.

On 24 June, the Slovak Republic commemorates the Day of Remembrance and Respect to Victims of the Communist Regime - all those wrongly convicted and imprisoned between 1948 and 1989. On this date, 24 June 1954, a doctor, political prisoner and Catholic dissident Silvester Krčméry was unjustly convicted of alleged treason, after being tortured.

Bi-communal dialogue of representatives of Greek-Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties under the auspices of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia resumed on 28 February 2023 in Hotel Ledra Palace. The role of the hosting party was taken by the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), which proposed a topic for the meeting: “The urgency of overcoming the impasse on the Cyprus settlement process”.

A blood donation initiative of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic started back in June 2022.

The role of hosting party was taken by the Cyprus Green Party (CGP), which proposed a topic for the meeting: “2023: Another year without a solution to the Cyprus problem? Risks, challenges and expectations”.

After more than two years the bi-communal dialogue of representatives of Greek-Cypriot (G/C) and Turkish Cypriot (T/C) political parties under the auspices of the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia returned to its traditional and full-fledged working format.

The Embassy of Slovakia in Nicosia has been a supporter of the innovation conference Reflect Fest, the biggest joint Slovak-Cypriot economic venture, since its inception in 2018.

Greek-Cypriot (G/C) and Turkish-Cypriot (T/C) political parties meeting under the auspices of Slovak diplomacy for more than 33 years accepted an invitation of the new Ambassador of the Slovak Republic Martin Bezák to an informal working lunch on 6th of July 2022.

Veľvyslanectvo SR v Nikózii nechýbalo ani na druhej časti osláv Dňa Európy na Cypre v turecko-cyperskej komunite. Tá sa konala v sobotu 21. mája 2022 v Kumsal parku v severnej časti Nikózie.

Uplynulý víkend sa na Cypre niesol v znamení tradičných osláv Dňa Európy. Slovensko pri tejto príležitosti prirodzene nechýbalo.

Na 24. ročníku medzinárodného turistického veľtrhu Taxidi sa po historicky prvýkrát predstavila aj Slovenská republika ako jeden z 31 účastníkov.

Predstavitelia grécko-cyperských a turecko-cyperských politických strán, ktoré sa pod vedením Zastupiteľského úradu SR v Nikózii zúčastňujú na bi-komunitných stretnutiach uskutočnili ďalšie zo série pravidelných stretnutí.

Šéf cyperskej diplomacie Ioannis Kasoulides prijal 16. februára 2022 veľvyslanca Slovenskej republiky Jána Škodu.

Vo veku 82 rokov zomrel bývalý minister zahraničných vecí SR Eduard Kukan.

Predstavitelia grécko-cyperských a turecko-cyperských politických strán, ktoré sa pod vedením Zastupiteľského úradu SR v Nikózii zúčastňujú na bikomunitných stretnutiach v hoteli Ledra Palace, budú pokračovať v dialógu aj v roku 2022.
