Lajčák receives the Ambassador of Great Britain

Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received today (17 October 2018) Andy Garth, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with whom he delved into several current issues. Regarding the attack in Salisbury and the incident in Amesbury, Lajčák assured Ambassador Garth that the Slovak Republic definitely stands side by side with its NATO and EU partners, attested to at the Monday voting in the Foreign Affairs Council during which the EU foreign affairs ministers adopted a new sanction regime regarding proliferation of chemical weapons. The talks also involved Brexit, the issue to dominate the European Council in Brussels this week. Minister Lajčák assured Ambassador Garth that the Slovak Republic is interested in a clear and correct agreement with the United Kingdom and expressed the conviction that despite the demanding negotiations an agreement satisfying both Brussels and London will finally be reached, although in the end Brexit will negatively impact both sides. “We must make all efforts possible so that the impacts are as small as possible,” stated Lajčák.

Lajčák holds discussions with his Hungarian counterpart

Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, talked today (17 October 2018) with Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, who came to Slovakia for a short working visit. Within the discussion in the follow-up to the regular, constructive Slovak-Hungarian political dialogue, they concentrated on current bilateral, European and regional agenda issues. The ministers positively evaluated the development of the bilateral relations and assessed concrete projects of cross-border cooperation, transport infrastructure and energy security. “It is important that it is our citizens who primarily benefit from this cooperation in increasing the quality of their lives,” stressed the head of Slovak diplomacy.

Lajčák receives the Executive Director of the International Visegrad Fund

Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received today (16 October 2018) Andor Dávid, the new Executive Director of the International Visegrad Fund (IVF) from Hungary, who took office in August this year. They mainly discussed the focus of the fund´s activities for the next three years when Dávid will hold this office. In this regard the Executive Director presented the priorities for his activities, lying in increasing the number and quality of projects, continuing in the geographic orientation to the Western Balkan countries and those of the Eastern Partnership, as well as in the efforts for acquiring new external partners and donors for the fund. Minister Lajčák expressed his support for the planned activities of the new IVF Executive Director, as well as the conviction that the joint efforts will help to make the fund´s projects even more attractive. He also expressed the wish that the fund’s activities also reflect the current agenda of Slovakia´s Presidency of the Visegrad Group. “It is necessary that the projects are especially focused on youth, mobility, innovations and startups,” stated Lajčák, appreciating the existing IVF activities not only within the V4 countries but also in the above-mentioned regions of the Eastern Partnership and the Western Balkans.

Lajčák appreciates the work of directors of Slovak Institutes

Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received today (16 October 2018) the directors of Slovak Institutes. In the interactive discussion with them he evaluated the activities of Slovak Institutes abroad and emphasized the importance of using the cultural dimension as an important instrument and an integral part of Slovak diplomacy. He deemed important the close cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, as well as many other cultural and educational institutions, which contribute to the wide spectrum of presentations and promotion of Slovakia.

Lajčák presents Ambassador of Egypt with Golden Plaque on occasion of him leaving office

Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, received today (16 October 2018) Amr Wafik El-Henawy, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt, on the occasion of him ending his diplomatic mission to Slovakia. Minister Lajčák was pleased to state that the relations between the two countries are friendly and appreciated the Ambassador of Egypt for his activities geared toward developing mutual cooperation. However, he also recalled that within the bilateral relations there is an open issue vis-à-vis returning the children abducted from their mothers in Slovakia pursuant to the decisions of the Egyptian courts. “You participated in the successful realization of several bilateral political, economic and cultural activities, including the organization of business missions to Egypt and Slovakia,” stated Lajčák in this regard as he awarded the Ambassador with the Golden Plaque of the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.
