Publikované 21.07.2022

As of 21 September 2015, for submission of an application and documents for temporary residence in the Slovak Republic (including one copy of each document), it is necessary to book an appointment in advance. The application will be considered during the set appointment, and the applicant will also undergo an interview.

Temporary residence

Temporary residence shall enable a third country national to stay, exit and re-enter the Slovak Republic territory during the period of time as specified by a police department, usually for the period of stay over 90 days within 180 days. With regard to the Act No 404/2011 Coll. on Residence of Aliens and Amendment and Supplementation of Certain Acts  (pdf; 972.48 KB) , temporary residence is always granted for only one specific purpose and only exceptionally entitles a third country national to perform other activities as well. It may be granted for the purpose of business, employment, studies, special activity (lecturing, sports, artistic, volunteering activity etc.), research and development, family reun¬ion or performing professional duties by civilian units of the armed forces, to a person with acknowledged status of a Slovak Living Abroad or to a person with acknowledged long-term residence in another EU Member State. For the first time temporary residence may be granted for various periods depending on the purpose for which it was granted and may be extended repeatedly.

Permanent residence

Permanent residence entitles a third country national to stay in the territory of the Slovak Republic within the period for which it was granted, and to perform activities almost in the same scope as the citizens of the SR. It entitles a foreigner to travel abroad and back, work, do busi¬ness, study or have access to health care and social security. There are 3 types of permanent residence: permanent residence for five years, permanent residence for unlimited time period and a long-term residence.

A police department shall decide within 30 days from the receipt of an application if the purpose of stay is study, special activity or blue card.

A police department shall decide about an application for the granting of permanent residence for 5 years and for unlimited duration within 90 days from the delivery of the application to the police department.

After obtaining the Residence permit

A third country national shall be obliged to submit a document confirming health insurance to the police department within 30 days from the receipt of the document of residence.

A third country national who was granted temporary residence shall be obliged to submit a medical opinion confirming that s/he does not suffer from any disease which threatens public health to the police department within 30 days from the receipt of the document of residence;. A medical opinion confirming that s/he does not suffer from any disease which threatens public health must not be older than 30 days.

Note

The Taiwan citizens are allowed to stay on the territory of the Slovak Republic/Schengen area for a maximum period of 90 days without any further permits.

Bearing this in mind we strongly recommend to Taiwan citizens who wish to apply for those types of residence permits which are decided within 90 days in the Slovak Republic to take these time scales into strong consideration. In case the application for residence is not submitted on time or is not complete it might be not decided during permitted 90 days period and the Taiwan citizen will be forced to leave Slovakia/Schengen area before the decision on the residence permit is taken. We thus strongly recommend to apply for the residence permit at the Slovak Economic and Cultural Office abroad before departure to Slovak Republic.
