Study in Slovakia

The Slovak Republic was the 76th country of the world to present its Voluntary National Review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development during the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development on Monday (16 July) at the UN. Six national priorities arising from a broad stakeholder participation process – self-governing authorities, academicians, the private and the non-governmental sectors – represent the basics for the strategic documents of Slovakia´s government in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as the national development strategy (under preparation), the National Investment Plan, and the Medium-Term Strategy of the Slovak Republic for Development Cooperation for 2019-2030. “The international community has never before adopted such an ambitious commitment to work for the benefits of mankind. The 2030 Agenda is universal – valid for all. Instead of vague ideals we have set concrete objectives and created a clear review mechanism,” stated Miroslav Lajčák, President of the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic recognizes the vital contribution of the United States of America to the protection and promotion of the human rights worldwide. We can therefore but regret the decision of the United States Government to withdraw from the Human Rights Council. Slovakia firmly believes in effective multilateralism. The Human Rights Council has been standing on the sound foundations of the UN Charter and its principles. And it delivers on many important human rights issues thus contributing to the protection and promotion of the human rights worldwide. The Council is a solid human rights instrument defending the universality, indivisibility, interdependence and interrelatedness of human rights. Protection and promotion of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of every individual is the best and the most efficient preventive strategy for people to live in peace and prosperity.
