The VELVET REVOLUTION PARTY in New York

21.11.2018 | Prezentácia Slovenska v zahraničí | Slováci naprieč storočím |

The Velvet Revolution Party was held on November 17, 2018 at the VNYL Vintage Lifestyle Club. The event commemorated the triumph of democracy in 1989 while celebrating 100 years of Czechoslovakia. Welcoming remarks by Consul General of Slovakia in New York Ladislava Begeç and Deputy Consul General of Czech Republic in New York Karel Smékal were followed by singers Pavlína Horaková and Vlado Kolenič and Ďuso Mikeš of "Taktici". Pavlína sang Marta Kubišová‘s cult song „Prayer for Marta", which became a symbol of national resistance in 1968 and again in 1989. Vlado and Ďuso brought back song „Vycestovacia doložka“ – „Permit visa“, which before 1989 represented the opression of traveling beyond borders of East block. DJ Eitan Noyze, a Newyorker with a Slovak heritage, entertained the full house.

This signature event was jointly organized by the Plus421 Foundation, Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in New York, and the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York.
