On Friday 11th October, Embassy of the Slovak Republic in New Delhi together with NGO Plan India and EU Delegation in India took part in this years‘ International Day of the Girl – Girls Takeover Initiative. For this special occasion, Slovak Ambassador Mr. Ivan Lančarič, „handed over“ the office to Girl Change makers Salma M. and Ranjita S., who are role models in their local communities, promoting rights of women, young girls as well as all children. They come from Odisha state in eastern India, where the Embassy, with the help of micro-grants, has successfully implemented two development aid projects. Spouse of the Ambassador, Mrs. Soňa Lančaričová hosted a discussion in residence garden about the possibilities of further development aid accompanied by the Slovak Republic in Odisha state.

The final ooutcome of the Takeover was a joint letter by Ambassador Ivan Lančarič and the Girls Changemakers to the Honourable Union Minister for Women and Child Development on the recommendations to empower girls and women and strengthen our societies. Afterwards, our Girl-Ambassadors were the Guests of Honour at the lunch hosted by H.E. Mr. Lančarič at the residence garden. In the name of whole Embassy, H. E. Mr. Lančarič awarded Salma and Ranjita trophies as well as presents and wished them only the best for the future. We believe, that we will be able to help and be part of the truly remarkable contribution of empowering, especially, young girls and children not only in very remote parts of India, but everywhere.

This years’ IDG was joined by more than 300 Girl Changemakers, who have “taken over” 21 Diplomatic Missions, 7 Corporates, a Radio Station, a Statutory Government Body, as well as 270 Gram Panchayats.

After lunch the Ambassador, Salma and Ranjita wrote a joint letter to Hon'ble Minister for Women & Child Development, H. E.
