14.4.2014 | Ľudské práva

The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on a Communication Procedure has entered into force today (14 April 2014). It sets out an international complaints procedure for child rights violations. The Optional Protocol allows children from states that have ratified the Optional Protocol to bring communications about violations of their rights directly to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child if they have not found a solution at national level. The initiative towards the elaboration and adoption of the Optional Protocol was led by the Slovak Republic.

Slovakia is a State Party to the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on a Communication Procedure; the instrument of ratification was deposited with the UN Secretary-General on 3 December 2013.
