Today (December 1, 2014), the 19th session of the Government Council of the Slovak Republic for Human Rights, National Minorities, and Gender Equity was held in Bratislava and led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák.

The main item on the agenda today was the National Strategy for Human Rights Protection and Promotion of the Slovak Republic, which was drafted after a participative process that took more than two years and actively engaged the public. The Council almost unanimously approved the draft Strategy and recommended that the Government of the Slovak Republic does the same. “Today, the final phase of preparation of this important document, which is our joint work, has been finalized,” said Lajčák.

The Council also took into consideration the Maintaining Human Rights in the Slovak Republic material in the context of the 2nd round of universal periodic review by the UN Human Rights Council, as well as the Report on Using Languages of National Minorities in the Slovak Republic for 2013-14.
