Igor Slobodník in the foreign ministers meeting of the Central European Initiative member countries

At the Annual Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the Central European Initiative (CEI) in Ohrid, Macedonia, today (15 June 2015) the Slovak Republic was represented by Igor Slobodník, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.

The partners focused on opinion exchange on the current developments in the Central European Initiative countries and on presentation of experiences concerning the European integration process, especially as viewed by the Western Balkan countries. Igor Slobodník, in his address, remembered the inspiring strength of Visegrad cooperation that has recently been manifested in establishing the Western Balkan Fund in the model of the Visegrad Fund, and also drew attention to the potential of the Eastring gas project with regard to energy security of the region.

The officials representing the CEI member countries also discussed the issues of strengthening mutual cooperation with a connection to the region’s security, stability and prosperity. They also devoted attention to the continuous evaluation of the fulfilment of the CEI Action Plan for 2014–2016, focused primarily on how to foster building a knowledge-based society (science, research and innovation), sustainable economic development (transport, energy, climate change, environment, rural development and SMEs) and an inclusive society (intercultural cooperation, media and civic society).

Participation in the CEI ministerial meeting had a triumphant celebrating start for the Slovak delegation when the delegation, in company of Nikola Poposki, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia, watched the victorious match of the Slovak national football team playing the Macedonian team on Sunday (14 June).
