State Secretary of the Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry Peter Javorčík received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to Slovakia Inga Magistad today (May 28). During their meeting, they discussed the progress in the talks between the European Union and the EEA (European Economic Area) countries, continuing the EEA financial framework and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism in 2014-2019, as well as opportunities for the cooperation with Norway during the Slovak Presidency in the Council of the EU in the second half of 2016.

“We aim to keep the same level of the contribution for Slovakia as in 2009-14 within the financial mechanism,” said State Secretary Javorčík. They agreed that the joint objective is to invest financial resources in areas supporting economic growth, competitiveness, and job creation in the EU.

Norway is a member of the European Free Trade Area (EFTA) along with Iceland, Switzerland and Lichtenstein. EEA groups include the EU member countries and the EFTA countries (apart from Switzerland).
