A sculpture was dedicated to Peter, Marián and Anton Šťastný – the legendary hockey trio –in the City of Quebec.

The memory of the unique careers of the Štastný brothers is still alive not only in Slovakia but also in the Canadian city of Quebec where the stellar brothers used to play and were so successful for the NHL team, the Quebec Nordiques.

On August 8, 2019, with the citizens of the city, the fans and the media in attendance, a sculptural piece created by the artists Pierre Brassarde and Marie-Pier Lebeau was unveiled in the street of homage to hockey. The group of sculptures carries a symbolic name: “Only to touch the goal”. Prior to the creation of this piece of art, the citizens of Quebec voted on which player should be immortalized in front of the Vidotron Hall. 45% of 20,000 voters chose Peter Šťastný. Based on his request, the artists created a piece that pays homage to all three of them. “The Slovaks have always been proud of what brothers Marián, Peter and Anton Šťastný achieved in hockey. This beautiful gesture is a symbolic acknowledgement of what they have brought to the Quebec Nordiques Club and its fans. I am happy and wish to express my sincere congratulations to all three brothers and their families,” stated Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.

During the ceremonial act, Régis Labeaume, Mayor of the City of Quebec, as well as dignitaries from the world of sport and cultural life expressed words of gratitude and acknowledgment to the Štastný brothers who took part in the event together with their families.

In his remarks, Vít Koziak, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Canada, acknowledged with pride that the Slovak-Canadian hockey trio was awarded such significant homage in Quebec, and added: “I am convinced that this group of sculptures is and will not only be the celebration of the excellent hockey careers of this legendary trio but also a symbol of friendship between the Province of Quebec, Canada and Slovakia.”
