The Club of the Regional Slovak Chamber of Commerce in Trnava concluded today (December 11, 2018) the annual series of regional discussions of the business community with the representatives of the foreign affairs and economy ministries, as well as leaders of financial institutions. The series was sponsored by Lukáš Parízek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.

The initiative of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, “Together for Slovakia – from Regions to the World”, presented the potential of economic diplomacy and the state form of aid and support that may be provided to Slovak companies which wish to export their products. “Slovak diplomacy has achieved an excellent reputation in the world, and in 2019 we will assume the chairmanship of two prestigious organisations – the OSCE and OECD,” stated Lukáš Parízek. “There is a unique opportunity for the whole of Slovakia - its companies, organisations, universities and individual experts to gain a foothold on global markets and establish numerous contacts.”

From the state institutions, the entrepreneurs in Žilina, Košice, Trenčín and Trnava expect active communication. Companies in the regions are concerned about the lack of labour and are under the pressure of global digitalisation and price negotiations. Often, they have no capacities left to pursue export ambitions or seek resources linked to it. “This is also one reason why I appreciate that the representatives of the ministry have reached out to the region,” Juraj Čajko, Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors of the Regional Slovak Chamber of Commerce in Trnava, said about the meeting.

Lucia Veselská from the Slovak Business Agency presented specific forms of support: “We support small and medium-size enterprises and individual entrepreneurs by means of micro-loans, internships in international incubators and participation in experts’ events. This year, we have already supported more than three thousand entities, including both established businesses and start-ups."

“In 2018, we witnessed the successful expansion of our companies to foreign markets, mainly in the areas of energy, construction engineering and the rubber industry. We supported exports mainly to the territories of South-East Asia and the countries of the former Eastern bloc. We have designed our products and process management in such a way that in 2019 we could focus more on the support of SMEs,” says Monika Kohútová, Eximbank’s CEO.

The national project “Support of Internationalisation of SMEs” is a project that focuses on small and medium size businesses. Its key mission was presented by Jozef Troják, the Executive Director of SARIO: “We provide space for Slovak companies to have their exhibitions and presentations in our national exhibition stands during international fairs; we organize meetings with entrepreneurs abroad and engage them in customer chains.” Primarily, we focus on energy, construction engineering, automotive industries, electrotechnics and the chemical and wood-processing industry.

Representatives of companies and professional associations are provided with an opportunity to participate in business missions as part of foreign visits of the state secretary and be pro-active when proposing their content focus. They can ask for assistance when seeking local contacts and assessing foreign partners via the Business Centre of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. Participation of the Slovak companies in development co-operation is a specific form of export-oriented activities. Slovakia’s international commitments create transparent opportunities for local producers and service providers.
