Minister Lajčák in Talks with the ODIHR Director

5.2.2019 | Aktivity ministra | Predsedníctvo Slovenska v OBSE

Today (5 February 2019), Miroslav Lajčák, Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, and Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), met with Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), on the sidelines of the Conference on Combatting Anti-Semitism in the OSCE Region. The minister thanked Director Gísladóttir for her cooperation in organizing the conference, which is the first high-level event to take place in Slovakia during the country’s OSCE chairmanship. The partners discussed the possibilities of further collaboration during the Slovak chairmanship and also addressed the current preparations to send an OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission to Ukraine for the presidential elections, which are scheduled to be held in March. “We expect the elections in Ukraine to be fair, free and transparent.  At the same time, however, we deem it necessary that the elections be monitored by a standard observation mission of the OSCE/ODIHR,” Minister Lajčák said in this regard. The meeting was also attended by Thomas Greminger, OSCE Secretary-General.
