On Saturday (September 7), Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), welcomed the agreement on the exchange of detained persons between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Since the beginning of the country’s chairmanship of the OECD, the exchange of detainees has been one of its priorities with regard to the crisis in Ukraine. “I am very pleased by today’s exchange of the detained persons between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. It is a positive development which will, in a significant way, improve the lives of dozens of people, their families and friends,” emphasized the chief Slovak diplomat. He further expressed his conviction that this positive action will not have a negative impact on the ongoing investigation of the shooting-down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17), which took place in 2014.  “This exchange has the potential to build trust between the two countries and lead to an exchange of all detainees in the way that it is provided for by the Minsk Agreements,” stated Miroslav Lajčák, who added that it is necessary to make every effort to resolve the conflict and end the suffering. “The OSCE and the Slovak chairmanship of this organization are ready to help in any possible way,” added Minister Lajčák.
