Supporting Tolerance and Non-discrimination Belongs among Priorities of our OSCE Chairmanship

18.7.2019 | Predsedníctvo Slovenska v OBSE

Slovakia’s Chairmanship in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) this year is working under the motto "For People, Dialogue and Stability.” Supporting tolerance and non-discrimination is an inherent part of our priorities. Moreover, this organization is well-known for including the human dimension in its efforts to improve the condition of the Roma people and the Sinti in the vast OSCE region. This has also been one of the core activities of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). Therefore, we welcome and promote the events aimed at introducing to the wide public these persons, deeds and activities geared toward the support of the integration of the Roma community.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic has been cooperating with the Association for Culture, Education and Communication for several years.  In the past we repeatedly gave financial support for the realization of the Roma Spirit event. As part of the activities in the context of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU, Minister Miroslav Lajčák took the auspices over the ERSA Forum 2015 and ERSA Award 2016 events. Therefore, it is more than natural that in 2019 during Slovakia’s OSCE Chairmanship, the head of Slovak diplomacy will again take over the auspices over the Roma Spirit 2019 in Bratislava. It is an honour for the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs that Barbara Illková, the Director General of the Section of International Legal, Consular Affairs and Crisis Management, will also sit on the jury this year as well.
