Slobodník met with European Defence Agency Chief Executive

Today (June 4), State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Igor Slobodník received European Defence Agency (EDA) Chief Executive Jorge Domecq, who visited Slovakia within the introductory meetings following his appointment to the office in February.

The meeting revolved around the expected conclusions of the June European Council on security and defence, the EDA engagement during the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union (SK PRES) in 2016, as well as opportunities for greater engagement of Slovak business entities in EDA projects.

Domecq drew the attention to several opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises in research and development that can significantly contribute to the further development and sustainability of the competitiveness of Slovak industry. He was also interested in the V4 regional cooperation expertise in the context of building the European single market.

State Secretary Slobodník emphasized the importance of the regional cooperation as an important platform for coordinating joint projects, including acquisitions. He stated that Slovakia perceives EDA as an important institution for building the European competencies and reinforcing the European security and defense industry. The Slovak Republic will promote support for EDA activities also within the expected revision of the European security strategy.

Finally, they discussed the opportunities for deepening the EU-NATO cooperation in response to significant security changes.

During the visit, Domecq also talked with Defense Minister Martin Glváč and National Armaments Director Milan Čelko. He was also briefly received by Director General of the Directorate General for Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Dagmar Repčeková.
