Lukáš Parízek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, attended the second session of the Government Council for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development held on Tuesday (15 May 2018).

In his opening speech he highlighted the activities of the Ministry in the external dimension of implementation of the 2030 Agenda, underlining their global impacts. “We are witnessing many global challenges such as climate change, security threats and solving the fundamental causes of illegal migration. These all have direct impact on our functioning and national priorities. Therefore, I´m pleased that among our identified priorities are water and climate change, education and healthcare. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic through its development cooperation and humanitarian aid projects has already been active in all these areas now," stated Parízek.

Together with Michal Mlynár, Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the United Nations, they recalled the necessity of the good preparations for the upcoming voluntary presentation by the Slovak Republic about its progress in implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the high-level UN Political Forum in New York in mid-July this year.  As they stated, this presentation gives Slovakia the opportunity to show that our country belongs among responsible leaders and donors not only at the EU level but also globally.

The Government Council for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted the draft of six national priorities for implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the follow-up to the finalized participatory process:  1) towards a knowledge-based and environmentally-sustainable economy vis-à-vis demographic changes and the changing global environment; 2) education for a dignified life; 3) good health; 4) sustainable settlements, regions and the country in the context of climate change; 5) decreasing poverty and increasing social inclusion; 6) the rule of law, democracy and security.   The proposal for the national priorities in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development will be adopted by the Government of the Slovak Republic by the end of June.
