Slovakia Presents Humanitarian Aid to Iran in Response to Floods

6.5.2019 |

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior mediated the providing of material humanitarian aid from the Slovak Republic to the Iranian Red Crescent Society in response to the disastrous floods that have affected the country over the previous weeks.

The Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Iran Ľubomír Golian presented the humanitarian aid in the context of the SlovakAid official assistance to the deputy executive director of the Iranian Red Crescent Society at the Iran-Turkey border crossing of Bazargan. From there the aid will be distributed to the floods-affected areas in the Ilam province.

The delivery of more than 6 tons of supplies valued at more than €111 thousand contains tents, blankets, mud pumps, electric generators and high boots. Slovakia prepared the package in reaction to the request for help by the Iranian Red Crescent Society and representatives of Iran, which was addressed to the EU Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC), as well as the call by the local UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Due to the heavy rains and torrential floods that hit almost all Iranian provinces, more than 2 million inhabitants of Iran are in need of humanitarian aid.

Representatives of the Iranian side thanked Slovakia for the help provided and appreciated that Slovakia is one of ten European countries helping Iran in alleviating the consequences of the disastrous natural force.
