On 24 October 2019 at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, the 10th jubilee Slovak-Czech Discussion Forum was held. It was opened by František Ružička, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, and his Czech counterpart Aleš Chmelař.

In his introductory speech Ružička highlighted the “excellent cooperation of both countries that try, in the context of both the EU and the V4, to be ambitious, flexible, and pragmatic in a healthy way and to come up with constructive, added-value solutions. The Discussion Forum has become the means for prompt and direct communication; we expect this to generate concrete proposals and ideas on how to contribute to resolving the issues that the European Union is faced with nowadays.

The Slovak-Czech Discussion Forum represents a platform created for joint informal discussion on current foreign policy topics relevant for the interests of Slovakia and Czechia.  The discussion this year was devoted to the developments in Central Europe and a reflection on overlapping foreign policy interests of Slovakia and the Czech Republic in the 30 years since the Velvet Revolution.

The event was traditionally prepared by the Research Center of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association (SFPA) in cooperation with the Czech Institute of International Relations (IIR).  The organization of the event was funded with funds from a successful SFPA project in the context of the grant system of the Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry.
