State Secretary František Ružička Receives the 6th Mission of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) of the Council of Europe to Slovakia

On 22 November 2019, František Ružička, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic met with the members of the monitoring mission of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI).

 

 

The partners evaluated the course of the visit and the mission’s findings, which will be subject to an official progress report on the Slovak Republic, regarding the agenda of the fight against racism and intolerance.

 

 

Over the period of 18-22 November 2019, the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) of the Council of Europe engaged in a process of evaluating the Slovak Republic with regard to the status of effective equality and access to rights, hate manifestations and hate crimes, integration and inclusion. The assessment also took into special consideration specific themes, such as the position of the Slovak National Centre for Human Rights and the fight against the segregation of Roma children in schools.

 

 

While visiting Slovakia, the ECRI delegation met with the representatives of individual ministries and the Office of the Plenipotentiary of the Government of the Slovak Republic for National Minorities. At the start of the monitoring mission, the Commission was received by the Public Defender of Rights, the Human Rights and Ethnic Minorities Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. The Commission also visited the Slovak National Centre for Human Rights.

 

 

The week-long agenda of the Commission also covered meetings with representatives of NGOs and civil society. On November 20, 2019, the ECRI delegation visited the Košice Region and Košice City including the Lunik IX neighbourhood. The delegation was also received by the President of the Slovak Constitutional Court.
