State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic František Ružička received today (6 February 2019) Yuri Sterk, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, who also attended the Conference on Combating Anti-Semitism in the OSCE Region. This conference was held in Bratislava under the auspices of Slovakia’s OSCE Chairmanship.  It was under Bulgaria’s OSCE Chairmanship in 2004 that the first ever OSCE conference on combating antisemitism was organized. “The fight against antisemitism, religious intolerance, discrimination and social intolerance is still an issue today.  It is necessary that we openly explain historical events and context especially to young people so that we don’t forget the tragedies of the past and can learn from them for the future. Twisting the truth and giving a populist interpretation are the threats of today,” stated State Secretary Ružička.

In addition to discussing the human dimension of the OSCE, the talks also delved into the developments in Ukraine and current European topics. Bulgaria is a candidate for joining eurozone, the Schengen area and the OECD. Slovakia supports these efforts and holds the opinion that meeting the required conditions and criteria is the prerequisite for full membership. Slovakia is ready to share with Bulgaria its experiences in adopting the euro currency.
