State Secretary I. Korčok with US Ambassador on current situation in Syria

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Ivan Korčok received today (7 April) the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Slovak Republic H.E. Adam Sterling upon his request.


 
Ambassador informed on current developments in Syria and reasons for today´s US air strike on Syrian airfield Shayrat. In response, State Secretary I. Korčok stated: “It is undeniable a chemical weapons attack occurred in Syria in past days, which caused death of tens of innocent people, including children.” Slovak Republic strongly condemns any use of chemical weapons. In this regard, the State Secretary underlined: “Slovak Republic understands the US attack on military infrastructure under the control of the Syrian government as an effort to prevent further use of such weapons in Syria.”


 
Recalling the need to stop violence and seek for a political solution, I. Korčok added: „The situation, which we witness today, also highlights the need for an intensive diplomatic effort in order to find a political solution to the conflict in Syria as well as to bring an end to the suffering of innocent people.”
