State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lukáš Parízek, received today (9 January 2019) the designated ambassador of the Lebanese Republic in Slovakia, with residence in Vienna, Ibrahim Assaf on the occasion of the ambassador presenting his credentials. Both officials positively assessed the friendly bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed the will to enhance cooperation between the Slovak Republic and Lebanon in the political area and primarily in the areas of economy and trade.  The partners discussed some of the internal political issues of the Near-East country as well as the developments in the region, mainly the situation in neighbouring Syria and the impact that the ongoing Syrian crisis has had on the surrounding countries, including Lebanon. During the meeting, Parízek highlighted the projects of the Slovak development and humanitarian aid which have been operated by the Slovak NGOs in Lebanon via the SLOVAKAID programme. This aid has focused on health care and education that the programme has provided to host communities but also to numerous refugee communities. “The international community must continue to pay sufficient attention to the situation in the Near-East region in order to achieve stabilisation and seek solutions to the refugee crisis which is a result of the armed conflict in Syria”, concluded Parízek.
