A meeting of the Regional Club of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce (SOPK) in Žilina took place today (10 April 2018) under the auspices of Lukáš Parízek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, with the key theme being the potential and opportunities for export activities by Slovak entrepreneurs.

“The task of economic diplomacy is to explore opportunities with a presence in other countries and build an ecosystem of support for Slovak entrepreneurs. We have 38 economic diplomats out there, more than 38 representations, and relations and a good reputation that have been built for decades,“ stated Parízek. Among other speakers contributing to the discussion were: Michal Kozáčik, Deputy General Manager, Division of Insurance and Bank Trade, EXIMBANKA SR; Jozef Troják, CEO, SARIO; and Zlata Šipošová, Head of Business Centre of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. They presented the possibilities for Slovak companies to receive state support and funding for their export activities. Best practices from foreign markets were presented by Ľudovít Černák, Chairman of the Sitno Holding a.s. Board of Directors who also assessed the trends and changes in current business relations. The low awareness by Slovak companies of state support opportunities was described by him as one of the obstacles to foreign trade.

Questions asked by the companies from Žilina Region were directed towards export insurance, experiences from doing business in Asian and post-Soviet countries, and ways of establishing businesses and seeking trade partners abroad.

The meeting in Žilina was the first one in a series of discussions to be held between financial institutions, ministries, regional chambers and entrepreneurs. It is a unique format for meetings to be held with companies in Slovak regions, with the aim to identify real needs of SMEs and to find ways of meeting these needs. The next events will be held in Košice and Banská Bystrica.
